San Francisco parking meters to adjust costs based on demand

San Francisco’s advanced parking management project, SFPark, is moving forward with its first tweak of parking meter rates. After analyzing parking demand data from the past year, rates are being changed to maximize the utility of public parking across the city. Within the program’s pilot areas, rates are being increased at about one-third of the meters. Rates are also being decreased at about one-third of the meters. Moving forward, SFPark plans to continue to tweak these meters every six months. The SFMTA hopes that these measures will eventually ensure that there is at least one vacant parking spot on each city block most of the time. For further details on the progress of this project, see SFPark’s press release and Transportation Nation’s recent post on the issue.
